How it works
Google cuts desktop titles at roughly 580–600 pixels and descriptions at roughly 920 pixels (about 680 on mobile). This tool measures your text with the same Arial font sizes Google uses (20px titles, 14px descriptions) in your browser, so a title full of wide letters like "W" and "M" is flagged even when it is under 60 characters.

Why measure pixels instead of characters?
Google truncates by display width. "illicit" and "MWMWMWM" have the same character count but very different widths.
Will Google always show my meta description?
No. Google rewrites descriptions when it thinks another passage on the page better matches the search. A clear, specific description is still shown far more often.
