Freelance Hourly Rate Calculator
Work backwards from the income you want to the hourly rate you must charge — accounting for expenses, tax, holidays and non-billable time.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is sent or stored.
How it works
Revenue needed = (income + expenses) ÷ (1 − tax rate). Billable hours = hours per week × billable share × (52 − weeks off). Hourly rate = revenue needed ÷ billable hours.
Frequently asked questions
Why only 65% billable?
Sales calls, admin, invoicing and learning take a real share of a freelancer's week. Most land between 50% and 75%.
Should I charge hourly or per project?
Use the hourly rate to price projects, then quote a fixed project fee — clients prefer it and you are rewarded for working efficiently.
